We all want our children to have a bright future - more opportunities than we had and a fair chance to achieve their potential and be successful. Yet, it is increasingly clear that a high school diploma does not necessarily mean that graduates will be prepared for higher education or for the world of work.  As parents, we want to know that no matter where we live or what school district, school or classroom our children are in, all students have access to high-quality education and provided the necessary resources to achieve.

What is the Parent Academy?

The Parent Academy is an innovative parent engagement program for parents with a four-year-old child that can change the course of student achievement by engaging parents in nine weeks of activities that will help you understand the types of support your children need to succeed in school, as well as, empower you to advocate for your children, thereby, playing a key role in closing the achievement gap.

The Parent Empowerment Kit is a collection of resources to motivate, inform and prepare parents to support their children on the topic of the California Standardized Test (CST) and the California Academic High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). Refer to this empowerment kit regularly to find resources that will help you support your child on these very important tests.









City of Los Angeles Economic & Workforce Development Department

Getting LA Back 2 Work is a federally funded program offering up to $10,000 for training to qualified candidates.  There is HELP available specifically for employees who were either: 1) laid-off or 2) laid off but returned to work with a loss in wages from one of the companies listed at www.wiblacity.org/b2w .  Supportive services (bus tokens, work clothes, tools, child care, etc.) and job placement services are also offered.
